• LES VOYAGES DE JACQUES CAVALLIER BELLETRUD

From the ends of the world to Grasse, discovering perfumery’s most luxurious raw ingredients.

A native of Grasse, the cradle of both perfumery and leather work, Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud created each of his new men’s perfumes in his creative atelier at Les Fontaines Parfumées.

In this Provençal estate, surrounded by flower fields and citrus groves, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud composes and formulates immobile journeys designed to take shape on the surface of the skin. To do so, he draws from the most exquisite raw materials in the world. He travels the five continents in quest of olfactory emotion: knows by heart all the steps necessary to cultivate Pallida iris and Peruvian balsam, the artisanal harvesting of which he tracks in Salvador; negotiates the quality of citrus with growers in Calabria, and purchases the most aromatic cocoa beans on the Ivory Coast, as well as Sambac jasmine in China. But once the ingredients are sourced, they are transported to his hometown of Grasse, and the transformation begins. Bolstered by the exceptional knowledge in Grasse where, from one generation to the next, experts perfect and transmit techniques for transforming raw materials and performing carbon dioxide extractions. Each petal is reverently respected; resulting in infusions so faithful to the original plant that they could already stand on their own as perfumes.

  • LOUIS VUITTON TRAVEL BOOK "ROUTE 66"

In this Travel Book, the comic-book artist Thomas Ott, describes Route 66's fall, as is his wont. The end of the journey cannot be a happy ending, only a culdesac, a dead end.

No one but Thomas Ott, a true film fanatic nourished on comic books and novels, could rush with such fervour to the legendary US Route 66. From Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, he travelled nearly 4,500 kilometres over a period of three weeks.

“Route 66 is a forgotten world. No one uses it. The landscapes are bare. The towns are in ruins. The streets are empty and silent. These are ghost towns, frozen in the past. I illustrate this lost America along the road.”

As the horizon stretches out, the traveller becomes intoxicated with movement, space and freedom.

Thomas Ott, born in 1966 in Zurich, is one of the rare comic-book artists to work in black and white, a powerful choice he made over thirty years ago. With infinite patience, he scrapes away at the Indiaink-coated surface of scratchboards with a utility knife, his hatch marks uncovering the white underneath to create the sharp contours of a world that belongs to him alone.

  • MEN’S SPRING-SUMMER 2019 SHOW: RAINBOW VISION

Virgil Abloh brings a rainbow of inspiration and inclusivity to his first Men’s collection for Louis Vuitton.

Within the gardens of the Domaine du Palais Royal, a gradient rainbow runway signalled the new vision of Virgil Abloh. Uniting the Maison’s tradition of travel and luxury with a global message of positivity, Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Ready-to-Wear Artistic Director proposed a collection complete with reimagined contemporary silhouettes, leather goods and accessories. Beginning with the opening looks in layers of white, the line-up continued as a representation of light refracted through a prism – a spectrum not just of colour but also design possibilities.

Relaxed tailoring maintained a strong presence as the constant between comfortable day looks and formal attire. Harnesses and vests featuring an archive pocket design embodied Abloh’s idea of “accessomorphosis” whereby an accessory becomes a garment, thus evolving its function. Streetwear silhouettes took on elevated new forms through an exact twist of three-percent from their original shape. The iconic Keepall became dynamically revisited in transparent and iridescent monogram surfaces, or else in all-over white, ruby red and emerald leathers – each bag boasting an enlarged chain strap.

As models from around the world walked the runway in LV Skate trainer boots, formal derbies studded with LV hardware, and vintage LV Runner trainers, they evoked Abloh’s ideal of the Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy’s path of discovery and otherworldly escape. Scenes from the film appear integrated into embroidered knitwear and printed outwear, in addition to the final silver leather poncho with commemorative Louis Vuitton and Wizard of Oz beaded patches. This was Abloh’s story of a dream made real, and the future is bright.
