Louis Vuitton's newest capsule collaboration features Grace Coddington's playful animal illustrations on accessories, leather goods and more.

A playful look at the latest Louis Vuitton collaboration with Grace Coddington

The iconoclastic fashion editor and self-professed animal-lover Grace Coddington has designed a capsule collection with her friend and Nicolas Ghesquière. Her illustrations of her Persian cats, Pumpkin and Blanket, and Léon, the Louis Vuitton Artistic Director's dog, are playfully splashed across a varied selection of accessories, ready-to-wear, leather goods, and shoes. Classic Louis Vuitton pieces such as the Speedy and Neverfull Bags are given an imaginative twist while new clutch bags and other small leather goods take on smiling, cartoon forms.

Synonymous with the art of travel since 1854, Louis Vuitton is adding another five titles to its Fashion Eye series of photography books.

This fall, five photographers invite us to travel to new horizons: Cretto di Burri by Olivier Toscani, Iran by Harley Weir, Geneva by Paul Rousteau, Silk Road by Kishin Shinoyama and Bali by Quentin de Briey. Each book evokes a city, a region or a country, seen through the eyes of a fashion photographer.

As the most recent addition to the Éditions Louis Vuitton line-up, Fashion Eye brings a new dimension to the range of Travel Books conceived by the luxury house. After the City Guides offering a refreshing and offbeat perspective on familiar and less familiar metropolises, and the Travel Books rekindling the idea of the artist’s notebook, with this third collection travel photography indirectly showcases fashion, thanks to the talents of photographers most often noted for their work in this field.

Take a closer look at the collection of the Cruise 2019, now available in stores and online.

The Cruise 2019 range of accessories is full of twists on Louis Vuitton favorites, complementing the overall audacious spirit of the Collection. Reinterpretations of the Maison's codes abound. The classic Monogram canvas makes an appearance on Archlight sneakers and its flower shape is enlarged on a graphic silk scarf. The starburst motif of metallic studs on the Twist bag or Capucines wallet was inspired by the monumental sun sculpture on Louis Vuitton's Place Vendôme store in Paris. Set here against the Corsican coastline, the Cruise Collection conveys a spirit of adventure continually drawn to new horizons.

Introducing Louis Vuitton's newest capsule collaboration with Grace Coddington: Prelaunching in select stores on Friday, October 26th

Louis Vuitton has a renowned history of collaboration and, in recent years, celebrated artists from Jeff Koons to Stephen Sprouse and Yayoi Kusama have left their mark on the Monogram canvas. Now, the emblematic fashion editor Grace Coddington has brought her idiosyncratic eye to a capsule collection of leather goods, accessories, shoes and ready-to-wear, designed alongside Nicolas Ghesquière and directly inspired by her legendary love of animals.

The illustrations that decorate this collection depict her dear Persians, Pumpkin and Blanket, as well as Nicolas Ghesquière’s dog, Léon. Leaping across an orange monogram print that reflects her signature flame-coloured hair or a graphic monochrome, Grace's illustrations represent a new chapter in the Louis Vuitton story: the Catogram.

Throughout the collection, creative charm is married with the exacting craftsmanship of the Louis Vuitton ateliers: handbags are lined with signed, mouse-printed canvas and every luggage tag meticulously edge-dyed. New Classics, such as the Petite Malle or the City Steamer, along with iconic bags like the Speedy and the Neverfull are given a fresh twist. Even Catogram lambswool blankets and nylon umbrellas are transformed into unique statements. Elegance is seen from a fresh perspective: clutch bags take the cartoon form of reclining cats or sweetly smiling dogs and silk pyjamas become refined daywear.

This audacious irreverence is in harmony with both Grace’s iconoclastic style and Ghesquière’s fascination with eccentricity – as well as reflecting their mutual adoration of animals. Timeless luxury has been animated by a playful spirit and turned into a covetable collection of travelling companions.

The Louis Vuitton X Grace Coddington collection will prelaunch in five select stores on Friday, October 26th:
