If Mayumi Hosokura were to apply a colour to Kyoto, her hometown, it would undoubtedly be blue. Not a clear and neutral blue, but rather a chameleon blue, which sometimes dons indigo outlines or sea-green shades. Blue infuses the subjects of her photographs: ordinary landscapes, urban fragments, blossoming trees, timeless rituals, diaphanous teenagers. In a series which knows how to take its time, Mayumi Hosokura reveals the ancient imperial city, which has not lost any of its mystery or modernity. Mayumi Hosokura was born in Kyoto in 1979. She graduated in literature from the University of Ritsumeikan in Japan and studied photography at the University of Nihon, graduating in 2005. She has since collaborated with a variety of magazines and shot campaigns for fashion houses. Mayumi Hosokura has received many awards and distinctions throughout her career, and exhibited regularly in Japan and around the world. She is also the author of several books. Inspired by the House's travel heritage, the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye collection evokes cities, regions or countries through the eyes of fashion photographers, from emerging talents to industry legends. Each title in the series features an extensive selection of large-format photographs, together with biographical information and an interview with the photographer or a critical essay. After Louis Vuitton City Guides and Travel Books, this third collection presents travel photography with a fashion perspective, as the chosen photographers all infuse their images of great cities, faraway places or dream destinations with their unique vision.
